Sony TC-377 Three Head Stereo Tapecorder

The Sony TC-377 is a classic 1970s open-reel tape recorder designed for high-fidelity home recording and playback. Built around a three-head, four-track stereo system, the TC-377 uses separate erase, record and playback heads. This configuration allows the user to monitor the recorded signal directly from the playback head while recording, making the machine considerably more versatile than a basic two-head recorder. Sony equipped the TC-377 with its F&F, or Ferrite & Ferrite, heads, designed for extended frequency response and long-term head durability. The machine also incorporates a tape tension regulator, scrape filter and automatic shut-off mechanism. The transport provides three selectable tape speeds:

• 19 cm/s / 7½ ips
• 9.5 cm/s / 3¾ ips
• 4.8 cm/s / 1⅞ ips

The TC-377 accepts reels up to approximately 7 inches / 18 cm in diameter.

The voltage selector visible in the photographs is set around the 240 V position. I would not state that as the permanent operating voltage in the product listing. Instead, say that the unit has a selectable voltage arrangement and that the current selector position should be checked before powering the unit.

Good Vintage Condition The unit has a strong overall vintage appearance, but it is clearly not mint condition.

• Woodgrain cabinet remains intact
• Silver front panel is present
• Front controls and lettering are generally intact
• Sony branding is clearly visible
• Reel spindles are present
• Level meters are present
• Tape counter is present
• Wooden cabinet shows signs of age and use
• Visible scratches/scuffs and surface marks are present
• Some screws and hardware show oxidation/age
• Rear panel shows dust and signs of use
• Bottom panel has noticeable marks/scuffing
• Connection panels show age-related wear
• Some lettering/finish shows normal vintage wear

Important

The photographs do not prove full mechanical or audio functionality. The power switch appears to be in the ON position in the photographs and the unit's meters/illumination are visible, but that alone does not confirm that:

• Playback works correctly
• Recording works correctly
• Fast-forward works correctly
• Rewind works correctly
• All three tape speeds are accurate
• Heads are within specification
• Motors/idlers/belts are operating correctly
• Audio output is clean on both channels

So I would not write Tested & Working unless you have actually tested those functions.
